Discord Setup for AtomicBot
Before AtomicBot can be connected to your Rust server, your Discord server needs the correct roles, channels, and permissions.
You do not have to create everything manually.
AtomicBot includes an installation system that can automatically create the recommended Discord roles, categories, channels, and permissions for your server.
If your Discord server is already organized, AtomicBot can also be installed without creating new channels. Your existing roles and channels can be selected afterward through the AtomicBot dashboard.
Automatic Discord Setup
During installation, AtomicBot can automatically:
- Create the standard AtomicBot roles
- Create recommended Discord categories
- Create text channels
- Create player-count display channels
- Apply recommended channel permissions
- Restrict administrator and logging channels
- Assign the initial AtomicBot administrator
- Register your Discord server
- Register your Rust server
- Connect your server to the AtomicBot dashboard
The automatic setup option is recommended for new Discord servers or server owners who want the fastest setup process.
Server owners with an existing Discord layout can choose not to have channels automatically created.
Required AtomicBot Permissions
AtomicBot must have the correct Discord permissions to operate.
Depending on the features enabled for your server, AtomicBot may require permission to:
- View channels
- Send messages
- Embed links
- Attach files
- Read message history
- Manage messages
- Manage channels
- Manage roles
- Use application commands
- Create public threads
- Send messages in threads
- Connect to voice channels
- Move members when required by a feature
Some AtomicBot features may stop working if these permissions are removed after installation.
Discord Role Hierarchy
Discord role order is important.
The AtomicBot role must be placed above every role that the bot needs to assign or manage.
For example, if AtomicBot needs to assign the VIP role to a player, the AtomicBot role must be positioned above the VIP role.
A recommended role order may look like this:
- Server Owner
- Server Administrators
- AtomicBot
- Bot Admin
- VIP
- Bot Linked
- Freshie
- Regular member roles
AtomicBot does not need to be placed above the server owner or your highest administrator roles.
Standard AtomicBot Roles
AtomicBot can create the following roles during installation.
Bot Admin
The Bot Admin role is used for trusted Discord server administrators who are allowed to manage AtomicBot.
Depending on the features enabled for your server, Bot Admin members may be able to:
- Access AtomicBot administrator commands
- Access restricted bot channels
- Manage player-related actions
- Review administrative logs
- Configure server features
- Access additional dashboard controls
Only trusted members should receive the Bot Admin role.
Bot Linked
The Bot Linked role identifies Discord members who have successfully linked their Discord account to their Rust player account.
This role may be used for features such as:
- Player kits
- Shop claims
- Playtime rewards
- Teleports
- Personal recyclers
- VIP benefits
- Player-specific commands
VIP
The VIP role is used for members who have active VIP access on the Rust server.
VIP benefits depend on the server configuration and may include:
- Additional kits
- Reduced cooldowns
- Personal recycler access
- Bonus rewards
- Exclusive Discord channels
- Additional AtomicBot features
If your Discord server already has a VIP role, your existing role may be used instead.
Freshie
The Freshie role is an optional starter role for new or recently linked players.
Server owners may use this role for:
- New player onboarding
- Starter access
- Newcomer channels
- Starter kits
- Custom server features
Recommended Discord Categories and Channels
AtomicBot can create a standard Discord channel structure during installation.
Not every server needs every channel.
The channels available to your server may depend on:
- Your AtomicBot plan
- The features enabled for your Rust server
- Your preferred Discord layout
- Whether you use separate or combined activity feeds
Server Information Channels
Player Count
A voice-style display channel that shows the current number of players connected to the Rust server.
AtomicBot can periodically update the channel name with the latest player count.
Example:

Welcome
The welcome channel can be used for:
- Welcome messages
- Rust server information
- Player linking instructions
- Server rules
- Getting-started information
- Important links
Shop
The shop channel can be used for:
- AtomicBot shop messages
- Purchase information
- Kit claim buttons
- Reward claims
- Server currency options
- VIP purchase information
Gambling
The gambling channel can be used for supported AtomicBot casino and gambling features.
Rust Activity Feed Channels
Kill Feed
The kill-feed channel displays configured Rust player kills and death events.
Depending on your server settings, the feed may include:
- Player-versus-player kills
- NPC deaths
- Animal deaths
- Fall damage
- Drowning
- Poison
- Radiation
- Cold
- Heat
- Hunger
- Thirst
- Suicide
- Team kills
- Entity deaths
- Other death causes
Raid Alerts
The raid-alert channel is used for configured raid activity and raid notifications.
Helicopter Feed
Displays configured Patrol Helicopter activity.
Bradley Feed
Displays configured Bradley APC activity.
Cargo Feed
Displays configured Cargo Ship activity.
Helicopter, Bradley, Cargo, and other activity feeds may be assigned to separate channels or combined into one shared activity channel.
Player Feature Channels
Outpost and Bandit
This channel can be used for configured Outpost, Bandit Camp, or other teleport features.
Players may use buttons or supported commands to request teleports.
Recycler
The recycler channel is used for personal recycler features and related controls.
VIP Only
The VIP-only channel is restricted to members with the configured VIP role.
It may contain:
- VIP kits
- VIP commands
- VIP recycler access
- VIP announcements
- VIP purchase information
- VIP-only rewards
Administrator and Logging Channels
Administrator and logging channels should normally be hidden from regular Discord members.
Admin Logs
Used for:
- AtomicBot administrator actions
- Configuration changes
- System notices
- Command activity
- Important bot warnings
Chat Logs
Used for configured Rust game-chat logging.
Player Logs
Used for:
- Player connections
- Player disconnections
- Account linking
- Player activity
- Session information
Kill Logs
Used for detailed kill records when separate from the public kill feed.
Death Logs
Used for detailed death records and troubleshooting.
Honeypot
Used by supported AtomicBot security or detection features.
The honeypot channel should remain restricted to trusted administrators.
Recommended Channel Permissions
When AtomicBot creates channels, it can also apply recommended permissions.
Typical permission settings include:
- Public feed channels are visible to regular members
- Members can read feed channels but cannot send messages
- Player interaction channels allow commands, buttons, and menus
- VIP channels are restricted to the VIP role
- Administrator channels are restricted to Bot Admin members
- Logging channels are restricted to trusted administrators
- AtomicBot can send messages and embeds in every configured channel
Server owners may customize these permissions after installation.
However, AtomicBot must retain access to every channel assigned to one of its features.
Using Existing Discord Channels
You are not required to use AtomicBot's default channel names.
If your Discord server already has an established layout, AtomicBot can be installed without creating new channels.
Your existing channels can then be assigned to AtomicBot features through the dashboard.
For example:
- An existing PvP feed can be used as the kill-feed channel
- An existing staff channel can be used for admin logs
- An existing VIP channel can be used for VIP features
- An existing shop channel can be used for kits and claims
- Multiple Rust activity feeds can use one shared channel
AtomicBot does not require every feature to use a separate channel.
Deleting or Renaming Channels
Discord channels may be renamed without affecting AtomicBot in most cases because AtomicBot stores the Discord channel ID rather than relying only on the channel name.
However, you should not delete a configured channel without updating the corresponding AtomicBot setting.
If AtomicBot is still configured to use a deleted channel:
- Feed messages may fail
- Notifications may not be delivered
- Interaction panels may stop updating
- Errors may appear in administrator logs
After replacing or deleting a channel, update the feature's channel selection through the AtomicBot dashboard.
Before AtomicBot Installation
Before contacting the AtomicBot Owner, confirm the following:
- You own the Discord server or are an authorized administrator
- You have permission to invite Discord bots
- You have permission to manage roles and channels
- AtomicBot can be placed above the roles it needs to manage
- You know whether you want automatic channel creation enabled
- You know which existing roles you want to reuse
- You know which existing channels you want to reuse
- You are prepared to provide your Rust server details privately
Never post passwords, RCON credentials, tokens, or private server information in a public Discord channel.
After AtomicBot Installation
Once the Discord setup has been completed, verify the following:
- AtomicBot appears online
- AtomicBot slash commands are visible
- The bot can send messages in its assigned channels
- The AtomicBot role is in the correct position
- Bot Admin members can access administrator features
- Public feed channels are visible to the correct members
- VIP channels are restricted correctly
- Player linking works correctly
- Rust server activity is reaching Discord
- Dashboard channel selections match the correct Discord channels
Contact AtomicBot support if:
- A channel is not updating
- A slash command is missing
- The bot cannot send messages
- The bot cannot assign a role
- A feed is posting in the wrong channel
- An administrator cannot access a feature
